Description

A delicious and savory twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, featuring a creamy blend of cheddar and cream cheese seasoned with everything bagel spice, grilled to crispy, golden perfection on sourdough bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread & Butter

  • 2 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, softened

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon of everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the skillet: Begin by heating a skillet over medium heat to ensure it’s ready for grilling the sandwich evenly.
  2. Butter the bread: Spread 1 tablespoon of softened unsalted butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread to create a golden, crispy exterior when grilled.
  3. Place first slice in skillet: Put one slice of bread into the skillet, buttered side down, so it starts to toast and develop a crispy crust.
  4. Prepare the cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, softened cream cheese, and everything bagel seasoning, stirring until fully integrated and flavorful.
  5. Assemble cheese on bread: Evenly spread the cheesy seasoned mixture over the bread slice cooking in the skillet.
  6. Add second bread slice: Carefully top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up, to complete the sandwich assembly.
  7. Cook the bottom side: Grill the sandwich for 4-5 minutes until the bottom bread turns golden brown and crispy.
  8. Flip and cook other side: Gently flip the sandwich using a spatula and cook the opposite side for another 4-5 minutes until golden brown and the cheese has melted thoroughly.
  9. Remove and cool: Once cooked perfectly, take the grilled cheese from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before serving to allow the cheese to set slightly.

Notes

  • Use medium heat to avoid burning the bread while ensuring the cheese melts properly.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of everything bagel seasoning based on your spice preference.
  • Use a non-stick skillet for easiest flipping and clean-up.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
  • You can substitute sourdough with any sturdy bread of your choice.
