Description

These Dr Pepper Wings are tender, flavorful chicken wings cooked slowly with a sweet and tangy Dr Pepper-infused sauce. Perfect for gatherings or a comforting meal, the slow cooking method ensures juicy, fall-off-the-bone wings with a deliciously sticky glaze when broiled at the end.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 pounds frozen chicken wings
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup bbq sauce
  • 1 cup Dr Pepper soda
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the wings: Place the frozen chicken wings directly into your slow cooker, arranging them evenly for uniform cooking.
  2. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, thoroughly combine the brown sugar, BBQ sauce, Dr Pepper, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Reserve some sauce: Set aside 1/4 cup of the prepared sauce for optional glazing later.
  4. Coat the wings: Pour the remaining sauce evenly over the chicken wings in the slow cooker, ensuring they are well coated.
  5. Slow cook the wings: Cover and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the wings are tender and cooked through.
  6. Optional broil for glaze: For a glossy finish, place the cooked wings on a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush them with the reserved sauce and broil in the oven for a few minutes until they develop a shiny, sticky glaze. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the wings if desired, then serve immediately while warm and juicy.

Notes

  • Using frozen wings allows for direct cooking in the slow cooker without thawing.
  • Broiling the wings after slow cooking adds a lovely caramelized glaze and crispness.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred heat level.
  • Leftover wings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • If you don’t have Dr Pepper, a similar cola soda can be used but the flavor will slightly vary.
