Ingredients
Scale
Fruits
- 12 large strawberries
Chocolate
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
Decorations
- 12 plain pretzel sticks
- 1/2 cup candy corn
- 1/4 cup edible eyes (or mini chocolate chips)
Tools
- Wax paper for cooling
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: Start by cleaning the strawberries gently under cool running water. Pat them dry with paper towels to ensure they are completely dry before dipping them in chocolate.
- Set Up Workspace: Line a baking sheet with wax paper. This will be where you place the chocolate-covered strawberries to set.
- Melt Semi-Sweet Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave on medium power for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Be cautious not to overheat the chocolate.
- Dip Strawberries: Holding a strawberry by the green leafy cap, dip it into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is completely coated. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off before placing it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Add Pretzel Sticks: Insert one pretzel stick into the bottom of each strawberry to resemble the turkey’s tail. Do this while the chocolate is still warm so that it holds the pretzel in place.
- Melt Milk Chocolate: Melt the milk chocolate chips in a separate microwave-safe bowl using the same method as before (30 seconds at a time, stirring frequently).
- Decorate with Milk Chocolate: Once melted, use a toothpick or a small piping bag to drizzle the melted milk chocolate over the chocolate-coated strawberries, adding decorative details for the turkey heads and feathers.
- Attach Eyes & Beak: Immediately attach two edible eyes to each strawberry, using a dab of melted chocolate to secure them if needed. Then, place candy corn upright to create the turkey’s beak.
- Chill to Set: Place the baking sheet with the finished chocolate-covered strawberry turkeys in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate is fully set.
- Serve: Once set, arrange the turkeys on a serving platter and enjoy!
Notes
- Ensure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to help the chocolate adhere properly.
- If you don’t have edible eyes, mini chocolate chips can be a good substitute.
- Be careful not to overheat chocolate in the microwave to prevent it from burning or seizing.
- Use wax paper to make it easy to remove the strawberries after the chocolate sets.
- The pretzel sticks act as a sturdy support when inserted while the chocolate is still warm.
